The 2017 Surry Hills Festival will embrace a unique arts attraction along Devonshire Street and surrounds. DOUBLE TAKE will revisit the street as a canvas for pop-up art and site-specific projections, launching during the Surry Hills Festival on Saturday 23 September and running for three weeks until Sunday 15 October 2017.
We invite submissions from artists, video makers and performers for installations to feature as part of DOUBLE TAKE.
Turn the everyday into something curious, revisit the past in a new light, or reveal the playful
side of city life.
Available sites include shop fronts and businesses, laneways, streetscapes or building facades for projections, visual or performance art installations. Up to 20 spaces may be available, with up to 12 sites for projection artworks.
Project curators, Esem Projects and the Festival team will work with selected artists to overlay Devonshire Street and surrounds with a curated trail, transforming the heart of Surry Hills into a network of spontaneous art and discovery.
DOUBLE TAKE will be complemented by guided tours hosted by Culture Scouts. Selected artists will be invited to participate in the tours, to discuss their work and ideas with tour audiences.
