Double Take – Projections, Pop Up Performances and Installations in the heart of Surry Hills

The annual fundraiser for SHNC community programs, Surry Hills Festival returned on Saturday 23 September for another fabulous spring celebration spread across the streets, parks, and creative spaces of Surry Hills.

This year launched the Double Take arts program, running 23 September to 15 October 2017, with works by 60 projection, installation and performance artists throughout Devonshire Street and surrounds – transforming the heart of Surry Hills to a plethora of creative adventure.

Join a Guided Tour with Culture Scouts. Learn about the history, art and stories of Surry Hills. Meet the neighbourhood’s talented entrepreneurs, the curators and artists who bring your Double Take. Tours run Thursdays 28 September, 5 and 12 October, 4pm to 6pm, Book here.

On Thursdays and Saturdays, 4pm to 8pm, enjoy live music and pop up performances.

On Thursday 12 and Saturday 14 October, 6pm – 8pm, join award winning performer Vashti Hughes and musical director Ross Johnston for a pop up  adventure  along Devonshire Street with hilarious reenactments of Kate Leigh and her notorious cronies. Get involved in creative workshops and activities…. Move objects with your thoughts at Mindz Brainplay. Create an enormous wall of colourful cats with Kitten Wall or a wild and fictitious Surry Hills at the Play Street…  As the sun goes down – explore projection and lighting installations, running 23 September to 15 October, until 10pm daily.

Creative Projects

Everyone is Welcome !  Join in creating fantastic Public Art Projects leading up to the Festival.

Head down to Shannon Reserve on every Saturday , 12 noon to 2pm, and take part in creating The Most Amazing Devonshire Tea Party, Ever! and more public art installations to line the parks and  streets of Surry Hills on Festival day and beyond.
